Wokingham Half Marathon

If you're going to enter this one, make sure you do so before Christmas.

It's filling up fast and the organisers think it will be full before Christmas.

Change of plan

I see from the Berkshire County Championship website that there are now 4 entrants in the MV50 category at Wokingham, with 2 from RRR and 2 from BFR (myself and Alan Street). I think out of the 4 entrants, I am likely to be last anyway, but due to very frequent incidents of AF (atrial fibrillation) I am likely to now just use this as a training run.

A friend has asked me to pace him to 1:45, a pace at which I should be in no danger of suffering an episode of AF. However, my friend has recently been unwell and may possibly not be able to attempt 1:45 himself, in which case, I would probably be very tempted to race this. That would give two possible outcomes - a very good (hopefully sub 90) time, as my fitness levels are very good at the moment, or a disastrous result with a very slow time or even a DNF, if I did suffer an episode of AF. I'm hoping that I will be a pacer on the day.

I feel like I'm 50+ when I

I feel like I'm 50+ whenever I run recently - does that mean I qualify?

MV50

Seems like a large number of runners in the club are MV50, and most of them faster than me too. Still, I got a bronze county championship medal for the Abingdon marathon in 2006 when only 3 people qualified! It wasn't totally undeserved as my time was 3:28 and silver and gold were no more than 5 minutes faster than me.

Thanks for the reminder

However, despite my youthful good looks, I'm in MV50 as well so no pressure John!!

County Championship race

It's almost full now, but if you've already entered you might want to register for the county championship (unless you're in the MV50 category, in which case I don't want too much competition Smiling). There is a link on the Wokingham half marathon website to the Berkshire county championship website, where you can find instructions on how to register.
